The US Department of Justice investigated our Metropolitan Police Department and in part made recommendations regarding de-escalation? Has there been de-escalation by our police department since the shooting of Stanley Gibson? Recently one of our officers shot a citizen in a vehicle and said he thought he saw a gun. Just last month a Metro officer entered a convenience store and shot a citizen who the officer thought might be a double homicide suspect. This could happen to any one of us who happens to look like a suspect who may have committed a crime. Police work should not be conducted at the point of a gun. How much has really changed in the last few years? Based on the continuing officer involved shootings, perhaps not much! If you'd like to read more please click on Officer involved shootings.
